ABOUT BSL
Business School Lab helps MBA and MiM applicants build applications that are clear, compelling, and strategically positioned for top business schools.
BSL was created for applicants who want more than generic editing or templated advice. The focus is on helping candidates understand how their profile is actually being perceived, what makes their story credible, and how to present themselves in a way that feels authentic and memorable to admissions committees.
Unlike large consulting firms that operate at scale, BSL takes a founder-led and highly personalised approach. Every applicant works closely with experienced consultants who have been through the process themselves and understand how competitive top business school admissions have become.
The goal is simple. Help strong applicants become standout admits.
WHY BSL EXISTS
BSL was created after seeing how many talented applicants were receiving poor quality admissions support despite paying significant fees.
Too often, applicants are given generic feedback, surface-level essay edits, and advice that does not truly reflect their individual background or goals. Many consulting firms focus heavily on applicants who already have near-perfect scores and traditional profiles, while candidates with less conventional stories are often left feeling unsure how to position themselves.
BSL was built to offer a different approach.
The belief behind the firm is that strong applicants are more than just their stats. Many candidates already have the experience, ambition, and leadership potential required for top business schools. The challenge is communicating that clearly and convincingly.
That is where positioning, storytelling, and strategy become critical.
BSL focuses on helping applicants identify the strongest parts of their story, connect their experiences into a coherent narrative, and build applications that feel thoughtful, credible, and aligned from start to finish.
Meet Our Founder – Saif Kanchwala
Saif is a British-born admissions consultant of Indian origin, raised in London. He studied Politics at the University of Nottingham before completing his Master’s in Management at London Business School.
After graduating from LBS, Saif spent more than seven years working across global companies, including over five years at Amazon in a range of commercial and strategic roles. Alongside his professional career, he also remained closely connected to the admissions process as an LBS alumni interviewer, giving him direct insight into how applicants are evaluated beyond just grades and test scores.
Several years later, Saif decided to apply to business school again and pursue an MBA. On paper, his profile was far from traditional for top MBA programs. His GMAT score was 595, well below the average at many leading schools.
Even though he already understood the admissions process well through both his own experience and interviewing candidates at LBS, he still spoke with several admissions consultants to see whether they could help strengthen his applications. Instead, those conversations largely reinforced what he already suspected. Much of the advice felt generic, outdated, and overly focused on statistics and surface-level essay edits rather than positioning, storytelling, and narrative clarity.
Saif had already seen firsthand that admissions is not simply about achievements or scores. It is about how clearly and credibly a candidate’s story is understood. Once the focus shifted towards positioning, narrative, and communicating strengths more effectively, his applications became significantly stronger.
That approach ultimately led to admits across INSEAD and multiple M7 and T15 business schools despite below average statistics.
After helping other applicants informally, Saif noticed the same pattern repeatedly. Many strong candidates already had the raw material needed for top business schools. They simply did not know how to present themselves in a way that resonated with admissions committees.
BSL was built to help solve that problem.
WHAT BSL BELIEVES
- Strong applicants are often badly positioned.
- Many candidates already have the experience, ambition, and potential required for top business schools. The challenge is helping admissions committees clearly see it.
- Admissions is not about perfection.
- Perfect stats do not automatically create compelling applications. Business schools are evaluating leadership, judgement, communication, self-awareness, and long-term potential.
- Essays are strategy, not creative writing.
- The strongest essays are not the most dramatic or polished. They are the clearest. Great essays help admissions committees understand how a candidate thinks, grows, and makes decisions.
- Every application needs a clear narrative.
- Strong applications feel coherent. Every part of the application should reinforce the same story, from essays and resume through to recommendations and interviews.
- Applicants deserve honest guidance.
- BSL believes in direct, thoughtful, and practical feedback. Not false reassurance. Not generic praise. Honest guidance creates stronger applications.
